Discover the Éislek (Luxembourg Ardennes and its nature parks)

The Éislek region in the north of Luxembourg is criss-crossed by valleys and high plateaus offering panoramic views. This unique and largely unspoilt landscape offers numerous walking and cycling trails, leading from one picturesque village to the next and opening up very special journeys of discovery to visitors. Also known as the Luxembourg Ardennes, the Éislek region is the cradle of a medieval culture whose traces are still visible today.

Naturwanderpark Delux – Guided hiking tours

If you are an enthusiastic walker who has always dreamed of exploring the Éislek on foot, you will delight in walking the premium hiking trails of Naturwanderpark Delux in the company of local guides. You can decide on the level of difficulty and how long the walk will be. The guides will share their knowledge of the region’s culture and natural treasures with you. Other services, such as picnic baskets filled with local products and guided tours of the sites along the way, are available on request.

Afternoon:

Guided tour – City Tour Vianden

If there is one destination in the Grand Duchy that stands out above them all it is the town of Vianden. Dive into culture and history and visit its castle and medieval quarter, the Victor Hugo House, the town museum, the monastery, and the Gothic churches. Take the chairlift up to admire the views, enjoy a refreshment by the Our river. There are many marked hiking trails and of course has plenty of hotels and restaurants.

Our tip:

Combine the tour with the Vianden Castle (Vianden City and Castle Tour). Built on the foundations of a Roman fort and a Carolingian refuge, the Vianden Castle is one of the largest and most beautiful feudal residences of the European Romanesque and Gothic periods.

Our tip:

Combine a tour with the photographic exhibition The Family of Man. A famously evocative photo collection by Edward Steichen that was inscribed in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register in 2003.

DAY 2: Mullerthal region

Discover the Mullerthal region – Luxembourg’s Little Switzerland

Hiking and the Mullerthal Trail

The 112 km Mullerthal Trail takes experienced walkers through a magnificent landscape of hills and rock formations. The most striking of these have been given bizarre local names such as Piteschkummer, Geierslee and Huel Lee – to name but a few. The hiking trails in the Mullerthal valley wind their way through unspoilt meadows and woodlands. As well as challenging trails, Mullerthal boasts an extensive network of easier footpaths in equally outstanding scenery.

Heringer Millen Tourist Centre – the ideal base for hiking

Want to explore the Mullerthal valley on foot? The Heringer Millen Tourist Centre is the ideal place to begin. You can get maps and information there, as well as the latest outdoor equipment such as walking shoes, which you can borrow free of charge and try out on the internationally renowned Mullerthal Trail. The Tourist Centre now also offers a filled picnic basket which you can rent out for short excursions and a practical picnic rucksack for longer walks. These are filled with local products made by “Mëllerdaller” manufacturers.

Our tip:

Walk to the Kalktuffquelle (tufa spring); picnic basket containing local products including Cassero and Crémant; tasting en route.

Our tip:

The castles of Beaufort

Experience the castles of Beaufort, where medieval charm meets Renaissance beauty. Follow in the footsteps of the last inhabitant of the estate and, in this suitably impressive setting, sample its famous Cassero, a delicious liqueur made from blackcurrants grown on the castle grounds.

DAY 3: Moselle region

Breathtaking landscapes and warm hospitality

Savour the perfect tour. Wander through the vineyards and cast your eyes over picturesque winegrowing villages and the spectacular Moselle valley. This is the very source of Luxembourg’s best wines. Learn all about wine growing, from the blossoming of the vine to the final product.

Dream loop hike

“Traumschleifen”, or dream loops, are some of Europe’s best hiking routes. The Luxembourg Moselle offers three such trails: “Schengen Grenzenlos”, “Wein- und Naturpfad Palmberg Ahn” and “Manternacher Fiels”. They criss-cross vineyards, nature reserves and cool, shady forests, and traverse high plateaus offering breathtaking views. The dream loops are varied and captivating: perfect for exploring the countryside by foot.

The Moselle is known for its regional cuisine, award-winning wines and sparkling Crémants, organic winegrowers and schnapps distilleries, wine taverns and tranquil towns and villages on and near the river bank. All of these invite you to come and sample their wares after your walk.

Our tip:

Schengen Without Borders – three countries in three hours. The trail over the Stromberg, where the border between Luxembourg and France runs, offers fantastic views over the Moselle valley to Luxembourg, France and Germany. Here, hikers can experience borderless Europe up close.

If you are following Luxembourg’s Wine Route, you must visit the prestigious Caves St Martin winery just outside Remich, known as the “Pearl of the Moselle”. Join a guided tour which includes wine tasting and enter the heart of almost a kilometre of underground galleries.

Visit the Biodiversum and walk through the nature reserve

The Biodiversum Conservation Centre in Remerschen is the ideal place to begin an exploration of the Haff Réimech Nature Reserve. This unusual futuristic wooden building is situated on an artificial island. Find out all about the world of birds and plants, the intriguing world beneath the water’s surface, and conservation in Luxembourg. Head out along the boardwalks by the water and enjoy the outdoors. There are also guided theme tours and workshops available.
