Description
Cycle path de l’Ouest (PC 17) connects the Attert cycle path (PC 12) with the Wiltz cycle path (PC 20) via Redange, Rambrouch, Koeschette (PC 18) and Arsdorf.
From path 12 (“Attert”), this route crosses a region of the Grand Duchy that is less well known but no less interesting: having gradually climbed the foothills of the Ardennes, the route enters the Haute-Sûre nature reserve with its lake, which you can reach by taking a short ride from Koetschette and which offers a wide range of leisure activities including bathing, water sports, solar boat excursions and walks around the “Lake Circuit” providing superb views over sparkling waters in their niche of green. The nature reserve is also famous for its high-quality local products, such as teas, spelt wheat beers or the famous Ardennes cured ham.
For another highly recommended detour from Koetschette: follow the route east for five kilometres, to the beauty spot known as “Napoleonsgaart”, and visit the church in the tiny hamlet of Rindschleiden nearby, with its remarkable 15th and 16th frescoes.
Directions
The West cycle path starts at the exit of Noerdange. To reach it, follow the street "op der Gare" in the centre of Noerdange and the PC12 in a northerly direction until it branches off to the east. The PC17 goes up towards Niederpallen. At the intersection with the CR106 "Rue de Noerdange" in Niederpallen, there is a narrow-gauge railway museum and equipment from that era on the right-hand side of the track. The track runs slightly uphill parallel to the CR106. After passing through the "Quäkebësch" forest, the track descends into the Attert valley, where it reaches Redange via a small bridge. At the "Rue de Beckerich", turn right and follow the "Rue de l'Hôpital", the first left to reach the junction with the N22 road from Ell to Redange. The N22 is crossed and the path follows the CR304 "rue Fraesbich" in the northern direction. A separate lane for cyclists and pedestrians has been created along the CR304 until the exit of Redange.
