European tourism leaders meet in Luxembourg

Destination(s): Luxembourg City

The European Travel Commission (ETC) gathers in Luxembourg this week for its 108th General Meeting. Luxembourg welcomes 70 tourism leaders from all over Europe from 20-22 November. Organiser Luxembourg for Tourism (LFT) takes the opportunity to showcase destination Luxembourg in its true European spirit.

The European Travel Commission is a non-profit organisation representing the national tourism organisations of Europe. Founded in 1948, ETC was originally established as a European initiative to promote travel to a post-war Europe in the US. Luxembourg is a proud founding member of ETC, and is among the 36 tourism board members today, along with 17 associate members from the private sector around the world. The goal is to work together to build the value of tourism across diverse European destinations through cooperation in best-practice sharing, market intelligence, and promotion. ETC, under the brand Visit Europe, organises worldwide campaigns encouraging responsible travel to Europe, the leading global tourism destination.

The country of Luxembourg, and therefore destination Luxembourg, is in many ways a microcosm of Europe – in its spirit and values. Our cosmopolitan fortress city is the hub for the stay and meetings. The European Convention Centre, where the EU Councils of Ministers meet, will take centre stage. Free travel across borders is an integral part of the European experience, and so the symbolic village of Schengen is another chosen location.

Rail Tourism Awards: embracing sustainable mobility

The motto of this general meeting, “The Journey is a Destination”, puts an emphasis on sustainable mobility. A surprising and welcome part of any visitor’s travel experience in Luxembourg is to enjoy the free public transport to get around the country.

Since 2020, this offer has strongly contributed to building Luxembourg’s positive international image. Travel and mobility are key topics on the meeting agenda, and the event will culminate with a gala dinner and the fourth edition of the Rail Tourism Awards by ETC and Eurail.

The Rail Tourism Awards aligns perfectly with this official Green Business Event, dedicated to reducing the ecological footprint of business events hosted within the country. By promoting eco-friendly practices, we contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious approach to event management within the tourism industry.
